About Responsibility:
"When considering responsibility in engineering I invariably think of my mother, who raised three children, much of the time by herself. Visiting the hospital with one of us did not come with the worry or concern of whether the air quality was up to code, or if the room housing medical instrumentation was at a sufficient environmental control to prevent the growth of bacteria on it. Her focus was on taking care of one of us so she could bring us all together. As a professional engineer, it is my responsibility to make sure that occupants of a facility need not worry about the standards of equipment or air quality. About Advocacy:
"Those “others” are those who cannot do for themselves. Those who are dependent on not just the skills of professional engineers, but also the hearts of professional engineers. Engineers with skills will choose the correct course of action. Engineers with hearts will make sure that the correct action is also the morally proper action at any level of an engineered project. When my wife was pregnant with our second son, she worked as a teacher in an inner-city public school that couldn’t keep the air conditioning running in her classroom without blacking out the entire floor, due to an undersized circuit. In the midst of a 90-degree day, she pushed through because she believed that those kids required a proper education regardless of how she felt. These are the type of experiences and scenarios that make me take the extra step when doing a quality review or the full load testing of a mechanical compressor for a direct expansion unit." - Christian Nazon
