On Juneteenth, Kendrick Lamar had a concert in his hometown at The Forum. Although the subtext of the concert was his now concluded feud with Drake, there was another theme that hopefully doesn't go unnoticed about the night. Regional sounds still matter. The way the night showcased the LA sound is something that should not be overlooked. For years, the music industry has attempted to homogenize Hip Hop and the idea of having regional sounds has become less and less important. Hopefully, the success of the night shows that regional sounds still matter and regional differences are what make Hip Hop as beautiful as it is.

Another important thing to note is the power of music and technology, and how far Hip Hop has come. Streaming the concert via Amazon Prime gave fans around the world an opportunity to experience what was happening. With concert ticket prices surging and a constant struggle between vendors, artists, and now the federal government, experiencing concerts will likely become the norm in the future.

Education is still important. As flawed as the system is, there are still people and organizations that are doing everything in their power to ensure that the next generation is taken care of. The Nyamwange Foundation is doing work in Jersey City to make sure students know where they came from and have mentorship and guidance about the next steps. This week was their annual Gala where they honored students, and community figures, and raised money for their Birthright Afrika trip which takes students on a 12-day trip to Kenya.
