It’s been some time since sharing some new music. This week we put together Malindi Press Release 9 which is a curated collection of music from Black artists from around the world. Some artists you may know and some artists you may not. The art used for this week’s playlist is by Aaron Douglas and is called “The Judgement Day.” The piece is one of many pieces Douglas created that were inspired by James Weldon Johnson’s work: God's Trombones: Seven Negro Sermons in Verse. It is no secret that African music has been on the rise for the last few years. What’s been known to those within the continent has finally been realized by people outside. There is a scramble for African artists and luckily some are being entrepreneurial and taking matters into their own hands. This week Nigerian artist Davido announced a partnership with United Masters to launch a record label. The label will be looking for an array of genres and artists and will potentially showcase some of the talent coming from Africa and beyond.
