The Los Angeles Fires have become some of the most devastating fires that hit southern California. Displacing thousands of people and destroying around 10,000 structures. The Eaton Fire specifically caused severe damage to the Altadena neighborhood of Los Angeles which was an area with a large Black population that was there for multiple generations. 21% of those affected by the Eaton Fire were Black. For context, Los Angeles has a population that is only 8% Black, so the Eaton Fire was especially harmful to Black residents. In light of the effects, several nonprofit organizations have been of service to the residents of both Pasadena and Altadena who have lost homes and need clothes, food, and other services. There is also a directory that contains a list of all of the families that are seeking assistance, a hotel directory, and free therapy services for those that have been affected.

In March of last year, Congress passed the “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act.” This is the act that is being used to potentially ban TikTok. And the same act that the Supreme Court unanimously upheld last week. Some of their rationale was that the app was a national security risk. Some of the unintended consequences of this may be the adverse effect this has on Black creators. Since its inception, Black creators have used TikTok as a means to make income and expand their brands. The ban may remove a revenue stream and extra outlet of creativity for Black creatives globally. In 2023, TikTok drove $15 billion in revenue for small businesses. Removing this sort of revenue stream will be to the detriment of a lot of creators.

The NBA for years has been the premier basketball league for the best players around the world. Creating a league to rival the NBA will be both expensive and difficult. The investment group is currently raising $5 billion and has plans to feature both a men's league and a women’s league that travels from city to city similar to auto racing leagues.
