LYS Beauty, the first Black-owned clean makeup and skincare brand, secured investment this week through a series A round led by Encore Consumer Capital. This funding is vital due to the April 8 expansion into over 800 Sephora and Khol's locations. In other business news, Bread Beauty Supply, a Black-owned haircare brand, was acquired this week by Cost of Doing Business (CODB). CODB is a holding company co-founded by Olamide Olowe, Topicals CEO. In 2022, McKinsey released a report about Black representation in the beauty industry. In the report, it detailed that Black consumers spent $6.6 billion on beauty, which is 11% of the total U.S. beauty market. So, both LYS and Bread Beauty Supply are occupying spaces that already have consumers and immense market potential.
