New York Fashion Week ended this week and lasted from September 6 until September 11. The who's who of fashion descended on New York to showcase their SS25 collections and build anticipation for things to come. Of course, there were a few Black designers that took to the stage. For today's newsletter, we want to highlight some brands you may know and others not.
U.K. rapper Skepta unveiled his season 2 collection of his brand MAINS. This was shown in NY during NYFW but in London. The theme this year was less about tracksuits and t-shirts and more about dressing up. It revolved around a more academic look and feel.
Queens native, LaQuan Smith showed his Lucid Dreams collection. During his show, legendary singer/songwriter Babyface set the musical tone for the evening.
Rachel Scott used this year's Diotima collection to continue to celebrate her Jamaican roots. Vibrant colors and the sounds of Sade extended through the room for her new collection.
Virgil Abloh's brand Off-White is currently under the leadership of Ib Kamara. For the first time, Off-White showcased a collection at NYFW. A brand drenched in authenticity, this collection didn't disappoint. Kamara expressed that this collection was inspired by Ghana, where Abloh was from.
Who Decides War made it clear that this collection was inspired by 19th-century Victorian fashion. Cash Cobain provided the music for the evening while being assisted by musicians from the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts.
