Happy Sunday! Whether you're a new subscriber or an existing subscriber, welcome back. Here are a few articles you should check out from this week!

Late last year, President Kagame of Rwanda announced that Rwanda was making a bid to have a Formula 1 grand prix near Kigali, the capital. This week, South Africa joined in as the second African country to express a desire to bid for a Formula 1 grand prix. South Africa was the last African country to host in 1993. Bringing a race to Africa would be amazing considering the tourism, youth culture, and various economic benefits. Bringing two races would be even more beneficial to the countries involved as well as the continent as a whole. Both the NFL and NBA have already ventured into Africa, so Formula 1 entering also makes perfect sense.

It has been over 100 years since the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 that saw around 300 citizens killed as well as dozens of Black-owned businesses destroyed. The Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa, known colloquially as Black Wall Street was destroyed as well as hundreds of people were injured or killed. This week, The Justice Department released a report that detailed that the events that took place were the result of a coordinated, military-style attack by white citizens. Last June, an Oklahoma court dismissed a suit for reparations by 3 survivors. This report confirms a dark truth that for years was buried and unfortunately may never be rectified.

Meta has been busy this week. One of the bigger moves they made besides removing the fact-checking features, was also terminating its DEI programs. Meta will discontinue the DEI initiatives for hiring, training, and picking suppliers. These programs benefited Black contractors as well as aspiring Black employees and current Black employees. Costco, on the other hand, doubled down on its DEI efforts, citing that its programs help attract a diverse set of employees and that Costco customers want to interact with a diverse set of employees.
