Happy Sunday! Whether you're a new subscriber or an existing subscriber, welcome back. Here are a few articles you should check out from this week!
As artificial intelligence is being deployed across more fields of work, considerations must be made about the implications for the current landscape. Specifically, as we turn our attention to the use case for artificial intelligence and healthcare, what can’t be ignored is the underlying issue in healthcare. Healthcare disparities are a central issue in the United States. Currently, the maternal mortality rate for Black women is double that of white women. Heart disease, certain cancers, and diabetes all seem to disproportionately affect Black people. Of course, if prevention isn’t addressed, then treatment is the next best option. But in some communities, they don’t have access to specialists within a convenient radius.
So what can artificial intelligence do to assist, and how has the development been utilized to close the gap? That’s a question the NAACP is trying to answer. This week, they released a report calling for an equity first approach to how artificial intelligence is developed for healthcare. The report points out, they the rapid nature of development, if not applied responsibly and with fairness, could widen the healthcare disparities and gaps. Possibly making things worse. Three points the report makes to pay attention to are transparency, community representation, and continued audits once any new tech is deployed. The NAACP and its partners are proactively thinking about the future of both artificial intelligence and healthcare. Which, if history has shown us anything, is the best way to go about things.
This week, the co-chairs, committee chairs, and host chairs for the 2026 Met Gala were announced, and the group included some prominent women that we’re glad to see. Beyoncé and Venus Williams are listed as co-chairs. Zoe Kravitz has been listed as a committee co-chair. Doja Cat, Misty Copeland, Teyana Taylor, and A’ja Wilson have also been included as part of the host committee. The theme for 2026 is costume art.

Jerry Lorenzo
At the end of this year, Jerry Lorenzo will be ending his partnership with Adidas. The partnership was announced in 2020. This came after successful collaborations with Nike. When it was announced, there were high hopes for what the partnership would be. We had already observed the success of Adidas and Kanye West, Pharrell, and a few other big names. Jerry Lorenzo’s design mind plus Adidas’s machine could have been something major. But over the last five years, the results have been largely lackluster, with not as much cultural impact as it could have been. The first product wasn’t released until 2023, and it just didn’t live up to the cultural and impact expectations, although the designs were fine. Now that he is ending the deal, it will be interesting to see what he does next. Fear of God, on its own, is a great brand. They just announced a partnership with the NFL to produce merch. Its clear that he can do great by himself, and it's unclear if he needs the backing of a major brand, or if he jus needs to do one off collaborations.
