Happy Sunday! Whether you're a new subscriber or an existing subscriber, welcome back. Here are a few articles you should check out from this week!
This week, a federal court decided that the current administration can proceed to cut funds to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood provides sexual and reproductive health services and is the country’s leader in sex education. A study by KFF found that one in every three women has gone to a Planned Parenthood for care, and almost half of all Black women have gone to a Planned Parenthood Clinic. Let's look at the numbers. More than 70% of Planned Parenthood patients fall below the federal poverty line. Planned Parenthood serves approximately 400,000 Black patients annually and is an integral part of the healthcare ecosystem for Black patients. With a rate of 40 deaths per 100,000 live births, the maternal mortality rate for Black women is three times higher than that of non-Hispanic white women. So this decision by the court is for many women a life and death matter. A court deciding to let the administration move forward with this plan to destabilize Planned Parenthood could have far-reaching effects, and some reports are saying hundreds of clinics across the country may close.
On the issue of courts, the highest court in the land, the Supreme Court, made a decision this week concerning immigration. The case was concerning people who get stopped by ICE simply because of their race. The Supreme Court decided that the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids can continue in California, and race can be used as a criterion to conduct these raids. This decision opens the door for this to happen to other races. It also opens the door for this to happen across the country. The ICE budget had a 400% increase from what it was last year, so they have the resources to do what they’d like. This decision is a far cry from 2023, when this exact same Supreme Court decided that race couldn’t be used for college admissions. In the 2023 college admissions decision, Justice Thomas explicitly said that race-based policies “fly in the face of our colorblind constitution.” So it seems this Court is picking and choosing when race matters and when race doesn’t. It matters if it’s being used to police and enforce. It doesn’t seem to matter if it's being used for advancement and equity.

How 433 Investors Unlocked 400X Return Potential
Institutional investors back startups to unlock outsized returns. Regular investors have to wait. But not anymore. Thanks to regulatory updates, some companies are doing things differently.
Take Revolut. In 2016, 433 regular people invested an average of $2,730. Today? They got a 400X buyout offer from the company, as Revolut’s valuation increased 89,900% in the same timeframe.
Founded by a former Zillow exec, Pacaso’s co-ownership tech reshapes the $1.3T vacation home market. They’ve earned $110M+ in gross profit to date, including 41% YoY growth in 2024 alone. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.
The same institutional investors behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay backed Pacaso. And you can join them. But not for long. Pacaso’s investment opportunity ends September 18.
