Opening a flagship store is a major milestone in the journey of any fashion brand that wants to set its mark on the world. Telfar Clemons founded Telfar in 2005. Along with the creative director, Babak Radboy, they have built a business that has been spearheaded by the signature monogram Telfar bag. This week, they announced that Telfar will be opening its flagship store in Soho in New York on November 23, 2024. For a brand that was built primarily online, having a physical location is a move in the right direction. The store will be 10,000 square feet big and will feature a television studio.

With all the conversation about athletes controlling the narrative, sometimes it's easy to focus on professional athletes in major sports leagues. However, high school athletes also control their narratives. This week, a prime example of that was Carmelo Anthony's son, Kiyan Anthony. This was the week that he decided that he would announce the University that he was going to commit to for basketball. Kiyan decided to commit to Carmelo's alma mater, Syracuse University. He did so on his father's podcast, 7 pm in Brooklyn. This further solidifies the direction that athletes are going away from legacy media to be in more control of their stories and their legacies.

With the results of the new election, there has been a lot of conversation about the Department of Education closing. The role of the Department of Education has a direct impact on the experience of Black students nationwide. Removal of this agency has the potential to affect the academic experiences of students everywhere. In this Law and Culture segment, we will explain the role of the Department of Education as well as some of the potential effects on Black students if it's removed.

  • This week, the California Health Care Foundation launched an initiative to enhance Black health equity in California. This initiative will be a collaboration between healthcare providers, schools, community organizations, and hospitals across the state.

  • The Sean Carter Foundation has started a new initiative to give HBCU students financial literacy education. The initiative is called Champions For Financial Literacy.

  • British girl group Flo released their debut album this week entitled All Access Areas.

  • From November 17, 2024, until February 2025, The Metropolitan Museum of Art will feature Flight into Egypt: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876–Now. This exhibit will showcase the relationship between Black artists and Egypt through the years through various forms of art and media.

  • This past Friday, Disneyland debuted its first ride that's focal point is a Black Princess. Tiana's Bayou Adventure will be in the Southern California Disneyland.
