
Jasmine Tookes and Sabrina Castenfel launched a beauty brand, Brunel, which is focused on wellness and skincare. Tookes has had a successful modeling career, and Castenfel has a background in private equity. The pair wanted to create a brand that not only made consumers look good but also incorporated "mood elevating properties." The first 3 products are a group of body oils. Beauty is a lucrative industry, and approaching beauty from this angle may prove beneficial since mental health is important and has been a topic of conversation that should be authentically implemented into product identities.

Angela Rye is an attorney, political analyst, and media personality whose passion for both Black justice and Black advancement is unquestioned. Last month, she started her "State of the People" tour. The website states: "Through powerful gatherings in cities across the country, we aim to activate a grassroots movement that amplifies Black voices, demands systemic change, and advances a national collective Black agenda rooted in justice and liberation." One interesting aspect of their platform is "The Black Papers" which are a series of essays aimed at using plain language to explain policy and give actionable steps for progress.

May 19 is the late Malcolm X's birthday. As a prolific figure in civil rights, his legacy has lived on via film, television, books, media, and activism. Coinciding with what would have been his 100th birthday, journalist Mark Whitaker published "The Afterlife of Malcolm X," a book that examines Malcolm X's lasting impact on American and world culture. In light of his birthday, the National Museum of African American History and Culture hosted an event on May 16 to celebrate his life. It was an evening filled with inspiring music and insightful conversation. Additionally, on May 17, the Reparation Education Project hosted the National Reparations Rally in Washington, DC.
