Danai does an impeccable job of capturing some of the natural tension that exists in any family. She also does a great job of capturing the complexities of embracing the new without forsaking the old. The immigrant experience is dynamic in all its regards. And it becomes more dynamic when outsiders are marrying in.

There have been dozens of father-son duos to play in the NBA. Every single time, the son played years after the father played. This week that all changed. Lebron James and Lebron James Jr. (Bronny) became the first father-son duo to play in the NBA simultaneously. It becomes more amazing when considering that they're on the same team. Although it was a preseason game, the significance isn't minimized.

Claressa Shields is a 29-year-old boxer from Flint Michigan. Her accomplishments include gold medals in London and Rio de Janeiro. The trailer for her new biopic "The Fire Inside" has been released and Shields will be portrayed by actress, singer, and songwriter Ryan Destiny. The film was written by Academy Award-winner Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk, Dear White People, Underground Railroad) and will be the directorial debut of Rachel Morrison (cinematographer for Fruitvale Station and Black Panther). John Stewart/Green Lantern is one of the most important characters in the DC Comics Universe. Casting Green Lantern is just as important as the character's writing. This week, James Gunn announced that Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge, Mufasa: The Lion King, Underground Railroad) will be Green Lantern in HBO's upcoming Lantern series.

The 2025 Met Gala theme was announced this week and it's "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." The theme is inspired by Dr. Monica L. Miller's book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. Dr. Miller is a Professor and Chair of Africana Studies at Barnard College and Columbia University. Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour will co-chair the 2025 Met Gala. LeBron James will be an honorary chair.

Media is an important tool when it pertains to controlling the narrative. It can sway opinions, influence the masses, and confirm or negate biases.
