This week, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU was released by EA games on XBox, Playstation, PC, and Nintendo. The game follows Zau, who is dealing with the grief coming from the death of his father. The game's creative director is Abubakar Salim, who was inspired to create the game partly due to the death of his father.
Video games aren't places that usually feature a lot of Black stories, so this game is a refreshing way of going about doing that. There is no shortage of Black gamers and Black streamers. A game like this that incorporates African mythology into a side-scrolling adventure is sure to be an exciting change of pace from the current landscape of games.
"Wield cosmic powers from the Sun and the Moon to defeat restless spirits in rhythmic combat, from ordinary warriors to the mighty Impundulu or GaGorib. Manipulate time and crystallize enemies using the power of the Moon mask or launch fiery spears with the Sun Mask, all in meticulously hand-crafted animations."
"Embark on a poignant single-player story shaped by actor Abubakar Salim’s own experience with grief, discovering how love gives us the courage to press on after devastating loss. As Zau, you must face your own emotions to become a worthy Nganga: a spiritual healer."
